SPC5(Sanyo) - High wear and corrosion resistant steel. Sanyo proprietary alloy, produced using PM technology. Unfortunately, they only list Carbon and Chromium in its composition and I doubt that's it, obviously Mn, Si, P and S are present, otherwise that'd be an achievement on its own. Listed working hardness rated as 55-62HRC. Sanyo claims very significant improvement over AISI 440C steel. Although, in 21st century that's hardly a difficult feat. New alloy, developed circa 2011. Designed for knives, and other cutting tools. Carbon content is very high, and Chromium content is also on the higher side, however SPC5 will not be as stain resistant as some of the other alloys with 15-17% Chromium and Carbon in the lower amounts, precisely because of that, Lots of Carbon binds with Chromium forming carbides which works well for wear resistance, but leaves less free Chromium to fight stain resistance. In short, SPC5 will rust if neglected.
